February Guest Speaker
Our February guest speaker was Jean Barrick with Frederick Area Ostomy Support Group. She also brought Susan Serdensky who was an ostomy nurse who spoke about the three main types of surgeries that would require an ostomy bag. She also brought Robin Edwards who spoke about his experience having an ostomy bag. The Frederick Area Ostomy Support Group helps to provide information and support to those that are having a bowel and/or urinary diversion surgery. They have monthly meetings the second Sunday of each month at the Frederick Health Hospital Volunteer Conference Room (Entrance #1 of FHH) 400 West Seventh Street Frederick, MD 21702 from 2-4 p.m. These meetings are open to those that have had surgery, scheduled for surgery, you and your family members, caregivers, and/or medical personnel. Also, the Frederick Ostomy Support Group opened the “Phoenix Ostomy Closet” open on Thursdays between 1-3 p.m. The “Phoenix Ostomy Closet” is a new service for uninsured, under-insured ostomates, or ostomy supply emergencies. This is located at 501 Toll House Avenue (across from Frederick Memorial Hospital on 7th street.) Enter the 7th street side of the building and follow the hallway; we’re in a conference room on the right.
